Sicilian Gold – Marsala Sweet 1.5L DOC

First made globally by John Woodhouse in 1773 and Florio is 1833, Marsala is the fortified wine most famous for cooking. It was traditionally served as an aperitif between first and second courses but is now considered a dessert or digestif. Fermentation is completed with the addition of brandy to fortify the wine.

Sicilian Gold – Nerello Mascalese DOC

Nerello Mascalese is a dark-skinned varietal most common on the volcanic slopes of Mt. Etna. Recent DNA tests confirm it is an offspring of Sangiovese and remains the bulk of Etna wines easily surpassing its blending partner, Nerello Cappuccio. These wines are fresh with excellent minerality and complex flavors. Many Mascalese wines have a perfume similar to Barolo and Burgundy. Recent popularity is due to winemakers creating a light body wine reminiscent of Pinot Noir. Some vines predate the phylloxera epidemic of 1880's.

Terre di Melazzano – Sofie IGT Toscana

Sofie is our favorite. We call her the "baby" Super Tuscan. Only two varietals are needed to showcase the true beauty of Chianti country. The serving temperature of this wine has an enormous impact on the flavor. Served cold, as the label states, blends the two varietals perfectly to create a wine that empties the bottle before you realize it. As the wine warms to room temperature, the silky and blodied tones of the Merlot shine. The result is so easy to drink that it can be served as an aperitif, a dinner win, or a post-dinner sunset sipper.
